Abstract

Abstract: This text presents an analysis of semiotic modes found in six posts published on an account focused on informal English teaching on Instagram. Based on the systemic-functional perspective on textual genres by Rose and Martin (2012) and on Multimodality by Kress (2010), we verified the genre that is instantiated by the corpus and we mapped their register variables based on the Sydney School genre approach (Rose and Martin 2012). We also analyzed the semiotic modes in the posts, according to Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2001) multimodal organization. The purpose of this text is to contribute to the expansion of studies on multimodality and multimodal genres found in the texts composition posted on a social media by an account focused on informal English teaching. Results point out, as socio-communicative purpose, that posts contribute to the expansion of knowledge about a linguistic phenomenon, that must be considered in a specific context to be understood and the several semiotic modes present in their composition make meanings through the level of relation they have with each other.
