Learning a new language involves more than just developing communicative skills. It also encompasses the development of socioemotional abilities. It is the teacher´s responsibility to create conditions that help build a safe learning environment in which students feel comfortable experimenting with language. With this in mind, the dynamics of exchanging Limericks (short poems with a fixed structure of verses, rhymes, and rhythm) was developed with first-year students of integrated high school at CEFET-MG Campus Divinópolis. This study aims to describe and analyze how this activity was planned to promote creative writing and interaction in English classes. To achieve this, the steps in proposing the activity will be presented, and an analysis of the students' productions will be conducted considering discussions on Creative Writing and the skills and competencies defined by the BNCC. Based on the Limericks produced and the evaluation of the dynamics, it was possible to perceive the positive results of the work not only regarding the learning of the genre and linguistic skills but also concerning the creation of a safe environment for learning a new language.
