Abstract

This experience report presents the work of an extension course entitled English I held the 1st half of 2015, in the Federal Institute, campus Barretos - SP. The course had a workload of 40 hours and was given to 13 students, although they were 18 actually enrolled. The students’ age was on average 18-40 years and had similar expectations regarding the course. The methodology used in the course based on the application of communicative tasks. In order to develop communication skills in LI by negotiating ways to achieve mutual understanding, the teacher used as a methodology, communicative tasks (PRABHU, 1987) and the proposed interactionists standards by Pica (PICA, 1989), whose way trading sequence comprises four spheres: when the statement is not understood - the trigger (trigger trading) - which generates the signal response (non-understanding signal) produced by the listener. The caller in response to not sign - understanding produces immediate response (response follow-up) you can follow or not follow a sign of comprehension for further continuation conversation moves) by the listener.
