Collaborative writing: an interdisciplinary experience

Abstract

One of the challenges of teaching English is to bring it to the student's reality, according to their needs. The current paper proposes the interdisciplinarity between English VI and Database Development Laboratory VI, subjects offered to students who are attending the sixth semester of the Database Course at FATEC Bauru. This qualitative study aims to identify and categorize the main difficulties faced by students in relation to writing the report in English. In order to encourage students’ engagement and collaboration, Google Docs has been used, it allows writing as a process, enabling the student to go back to the text, observing the errors pointed out by the teacher through the "comments". On the other hand, the teacher reads the texts and can identify students’ real needs, therefore, they can plan their classes again in order to approach the presented deficiencies.
