Abstract

The experience related by this paper starts from the belief that the teaching of foreign languages in a technological college is not only restricted to the curricular prescription of Spanish and English languages, but it also can, and must, contemplate the learning of other modern languages to foment a bigger linguistic capacitation of their future technologists, as well as of the professors and members of the local community. Therefore, the actual project aims to the present the experience the of Fatec Itapetininga Program of Languages, an initiative that together with the teaching of English and Spanish of this higher institution been object of recognition of students, professors and members of the community because it offers free courses in modern languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, English, French, German and English, as well as preparatory courses to international language certifications. The methodology utilized for this paper was the description of historical facts that have succeed the creation of the program until its present days of operation with the mentioned  institution. Among it results, this initiative has accomplished 1) an improvement of the level of linguistic of the participants in the languages of the initiative, 2) recruitment of monitors and instructors of languages, 3) obtainment of scholarships for the formation abroad and the 4) recognition of the community of the valor of the initiative in the area of knowledge, citizenship and social responsibility. This paper concludes by highlighting the understanding that free initiatives such as the Fatec Itapetininga Program of Languages are always in high need in the globalized world as the current one.
