Visual impairment has, for many years, been a reason for segregation, including within the educational environment. Only in the late 17th century did ideas emerge for individuals with this type of disability to be accommodated in philanthropic institutions. Thus, the article "Seeing beyond barriers: Innovative strategies for teaching English to students with visual impairments" addresses the challenges and strategies for inclusive English teaching for visually impaired students in basic education. Throughout the text, the importance of recognizing the unique needs of these students and providing accessible resources, such as braille materials and assistive technologies, is highlighted. The article also discusses the importance of curriculum adaptations, including activities that develop auditory and tactile skills, as well as effective pedagogical strategies, such as the use of audio and sensory methods. In conclusion, despite all the progress observed, there remains an urgent need for a more inclusive and collaborative approach to ensure equitable access to quality education for all students, regardless of their visual abilities.
