Searching for technical vocabulary translation from aircraft maintenance area: an exploratory study

The study of the English language is important for students and professionals, especially for those directly involved with technology. However, due to technical vocabulary, the process of studying English for a specific purpose is often quite difficult. Considering English for aviation, there are some studies that focus language used by pilots, flight attendants and air traffic controllers, but those about English for aircraft maintenance are rare. Considering that, our study purpose was to analyze, in an exploratory manner, the process of studying/looking up vocabulary related to aircraft maintenance using sources such as glossaries, dictionaries and translators. We’ve selected, using a computational tool, words from the material provided by FAA. The translation of the selected words was searched in common sources
(translators, glossaries and dictionaries). During this process, we could notice that it’s hard to find appropriate translations of some words.
