Abstract

The internationalization has been the target of many studies today, especially in institutions of higher education (IES), including Brazil. Thus, the English language takes on a fundamental role in the context of internationalization, as it is currently considered a global language (GRADDOL, 2006), especially in relation to the globalized labor market. It is important to consider the importance of the English language in the academic world, which justifies the expansion of EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) in universities around the world. This article aims to analyze the English language proficiency of students and teachers of a lato sensu postgraduate program of a state public institution of higher technological education in the city of São Paulo, as well as their interest in participating in English academic activities. This is a quantitative and qualitative survey, in which a questionnaire was applied to its participants.
